Today Meli and I made a Red Velvet cake
It was fun to make it together although it seemed to me like Meli was bossing me around.
I bake just as well as she dose but I wont dwell on that because it was so much fun to make .
Hear is the recipe.
grease and lightly flour cake pans.
preheat the oven to 350F
2 eggs at room temperature.
1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
2 ounces of red food coloring
stir together and set aside
1/2 cup of shortening (we used oil)
beat with an electric mixer on medium high speed for 30 seconds.
Add 1 .1/2 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla beat until combined.
Beat in cocoa mixture.
Add the eggs one at a time.
Alternately Add 2. 1/4th cups sifted cake flour or two cups all purpose flour.
Add 1 cup of buttermilk or sour milk (which we made by adding lemon juice to it).
Stir together 1 tsp baking soda and 1 tsp or vinegar.
(It was cool to see the chemical reaction caused by the vinegar and baking soda.)
add to the batter mixing until combined.
Spread batter into prepared pans.
bake for 30 to 35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
Creamy frosting.
In a medium saucepan whisk 1 cup milk into 3 tablespoons of all purpose flour.
